Awesome Vector Illustrations

Maybe I just have a thing for Velma from Scooby Do. Maybe I really like the idea of her being a badass zombie/ vampire/ monster killer.

Or maybe I just really like these vector illustrations.

Tall Buildings With Silly Names

This is a cool little photo montage over on the BBC's website. Apparently, the Brits have the tendency to give tall buildings silly names, whereas we in America tend to not do the same thing.

I don't know what a gherkin is, but I would've named that gherkin building something, completely different.

The rest of this article is over on my Texas sports website. The game was pretty exciting, unfortunately, the TX State Bobcat's fell short.

Some background about the live game webcast:

Background of Viewing Audience:

Our live webcast audience will primarily be family members, students and faculty of the private schools who will not be traveling to see the game from both the Fort Worth and Midland areas. The primary audience is composed of people connected to faith based private/ parochial schools so as a general rule, we will not run advertisements for adult oriented businesses and services.

Obama's Internet Kill Switch, not Really Obama's

I love how the republican blowhards made this sound like it was an Obama creation. Turns out that the authority to shut off "any means of communication in time of emergency" rule was passed in 1942.

So, since 1942, every president since then has had the ability to kill communications at will during times of a national emergency. The blowhards, made it seem like it was an Obama power grab, when it's really not.

My biggest concern with the kill switch, is what will happen during the zombie apocalypse? Will they shut off the internet? Is that why no one in any zombie movie makes a reference to getting online and checking the status of things in other cities and so on?

On a serious note, I see the advantages in being able to sever an enemy's communication network. What I don't like, is that if/ since an enemy can use civilian communication channels, I may not be able to communicate with my family and loved ones.

That's what really bothers me.

Best Name Ever For A Restaurant?

This place is in North Austin, on Parmer lane and near the Samsung plant. I have not yet eaten there, but I love saying that I'd "like to go eat a Pho King lunch."

Yes, I'm juvenile like that.

Smartphones: disrupting 10 markets and counting…

How many markets has the smartphone disrupted? At least 10 at last count, according to this list compiled by Douglas A. McIntyre and Charles Stockdale:

World's Most Hardcore Cat

This either the most hardcore cat or the wimpiest gator in the world. Either way, I think that the cat has some big brass ones to stand up to that gator.

A View On Airport Security: "You Can't Just Grab My Crank"

This is a great post by Penn Jillete of Penn and Teller fame. He makes what I feel to be a valid point about airport security and assault and battery.

Can a TSA employee be charged with assault and battery while performing their work duties?

Top Commandments Of Business Networking

This is a really cool article. It has 59 commandments of business networking, both when you are one on one and when in groups. Some of these are plain common sense, others are really cool, but all of them are great tips for networking.

One of the tips, talks about how to disengage from someone politely:

* You can tell them you don’t want to monopolize their time.
* You can tell them you see someone you need to speak with.
* You can excuse yourself to the restroom.
* You can tell them you’d like to continue meeting people.

Love those, and I think that I've had someone "disengage" with me using every one of those excuses. I wonder if it's something I say?

:-)

Hugo Chavez Prepares For A Third Coup d'etat

This is a Google translation of the Spanish text. Follow the link to read the original text in Spanish, but the point is this:

Hugo Chavez, despite what whiny bleeding heart liberals like Sean Penn, Danny Glover and Oliver Stone say, is really a despot and a dictator. Chavez is prepared to stage a third coup to retake power for himself, should he lose the general elections in 2012.

That's right, I said his third coup.

Chavez is the only person that has led a coup d' etat against the government of Venezuela in the last 50 years, not once but twice. When he leads the coup d' etat that he's already announced in 2012, it will be Chavez's third coup in 15 years.

If that's how you define a democratic government, I have some ocean front property for you Arizona that you can buy for cheap.

Autocorrect Incorrectness

These were funny. I have been bit by the auto-correct feature but never thought to save a screen shot and send them anywhere.

Dead Blue Whales Wash Ashore In California

This is both sad and fascinating at the same time. I love the writer's description of the scene and I also agree with his thoughts on what will happen next.

The writer thinks that the prescence of the carcass will stimulate the proliferation of all kinds of little critters like crabs etc. that will feast upon the dead whale. The circle of life and all that.

22 Places To List Your Blog

The list below has 20 locations, but I'll also add a 2 more to the list. I'll add Amplify and also Blogadera to the list. Although Blogadera slants more towards latino people, it's open to anyone that wants to create an account and share a blog there.

Hospital Admits Performing Illegal Kidney Transplants

This is freaky. I remember when this story first broke back in 2003. The hospital denied that it knew anything and that anything even remotely like this was happening.

Basically, poor people, minors in some cases, were flown to South Africa to have a kidney removed. The kidney was then transplanted into wealthy Israelis and the hospital made a cut (no pun intended) of deal.

12 Things To Takeaway From Bush's Book

I don't know that this guy ever read a book, now he's written one. I'm really not the least bit surprised by any of these 12 points.

I do think it's funny that Kanye hurt his feelings. I guess Bush has that in common with Taylor Swift, but at least Taylor Swift was man enough to not whine about it in a book.

Airport Security Hits New Low

I think the last line in the story says it all. Eventhough there are no body scanners at the airport in question, people still have to follow the same procedures as if there were body scanners there.

To top it all off, am I the only person that finds it odd that these new multimillion dollar machines have trouble dealing with belts? Interestingly, or should it be ironically? The picture shows the real meaning of TSA: Three Standing Around.

An Englishman Walks Into A Presidential Press Conference...

This is an interesting story told by the BBC's John Simpson. He tells us about getting re-assigned to work from Montevideo Uruguay during the Falkland war between England and Argentina way back when.

Mr. Simpson essentially barged his way into a presidential press conference by the then military dictator General Alvarez.

I don't know that I see the correlation between General Alvarez's snafu on live TV and his getting demoted, but what do I know.

Qantas A380 In Emergency Landing In Singapore

I posted some video from Reuters over on my aviation news site that shows the damage to the plane's engine, some of the damage caused by falling debris from the plane and more.

An Elections Related Joke

Yes, this is an oldie, but I think it's a goodie.

Why Prop 19 Failed

This guy makes some valid points, however, I think the biggest reason prop 19 failed is the perception that mainly pot heads supported it. Besides, everyone knows that using good arguments, good logic and speaking in complete and accurate sentences doesn't win elections.

PA Lady Convicted In Weird Bank Robbery Plot

Just seems more like something out of the movies than an actual thing that happened. I feel horrible for the pizza driver and for his family.
